The Greene County School Board recently approved all other contracts for the next school year.
At their April meeting, the Board approved a five year agreement with the bus driver’s union, where the two first years, the bus drivers will receive a three percent increase in pay and the final three years are left open for negotiations. The nutrition staff will get a 6.5 percent increase and all other classified staff will have a 3.5 percent increase for next year. The administrative staff will see an overall decrease of 0.65 percent, due to retirements and hiring replacements at a lower salary schedule.
Superintendent Brett Abbotts says the Board also approved identifying the roles that the district’s Teacher Leadership and Compensation will look like going into next year. He explains that instead of having two district level TLC positions with Karen Shannon as the district math specialist and Maleea Gannon as the district reading specialist, they are transitioning back to each school building having two instructional coaches.
“We had two incredibly impactful people in those district-level roles. But we weren’t necessarily seeing the impact that I was really hoping to see, just because they were spread so thin across all three buildings, instead of being more devoter-focused into one building or maybe two at the most. And so I think with a more concentrated effort it should allows us to be able to support more teachers, support the classrooms more, which is ultimately just going to make a better impact on kids.”
Shannon will be an instructional coach at the middle and high schools, while Gannon will be at the elementary school. There are also 15 other TLC positions as mentor/model teachers in each of the three buildings. The funding for all TLC positions will not change going into next year.
