Close to ten Greene County High School students earned a special recognition recently.
High School Spanish Instructor Amy Van der Meer tells Raccoon Valley Radio eight students received the Seal of Biliteracy. The students that showed they were proficient in English and Spanish to achieve the award included Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Ilse Hooper, Kaitlin Fields, Chad Maston, Caleb Most, Ashlyn Hinners and Tarynn Fisher.
Van der Meer says this is a four part test that includes reading, writing, speaking and listening. This type of an award shows a student’s attainment of multilingual skills are important for future employers, as well as higher education institutions. Van der Meer adds ten students took the test and they are waiting on the results for one of them and the other did not pass.
