The Dallas Center-Grimes girls softball got their practice schedule started on May 1st and are ready to rebound on a successful 2022 season.

Last year, the Mustangs won 37 games along with a Little Hawkeye Conference champions and made it to the state championship game but lost to Winterset. They return a majority of their team only losing two seniors from last year. There will be a total of four seniors this year including Grace Johnson, Abby Osborn, Zoey Valenta and Olivia Huston. Head Coach Steve Schlafke feels like they can pick up where they left off last year.

“We’re really good offensively. Last year, which was a little bit of a surprise, but with the hard work that they put in, it really wasn’t as much of a surprise as what we thought it was going to be. And, you know, pitching wise, we’ve got 12 pitchers, you know, eight through 12. And defensively, you know, with another year of experience under their belt, we should be better in that respect as well. So we’ve been really working hard to try to improve on little things so far.”

The Mustangs will get in two scrimmages Johnston on May 12th and against Ankeny on May 20th, before the season starts. Their regular season will begin on May 22nd on the road versus Harlan and then their home opener will be on May 25th against Waukee and the game will be broadcasted live on Raccoon Valley Radio.
