Thursday saw beautiful weather and Greene County athletes competing in golf as well as track & field.

The Drake Relays decathlon finished its final five events on Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines and former Greene County standout athlete Carter Morton from Jefferson finished first with a career best 7,454 points. He’s believed to be the first graduate from a Greene County school in the modern era to win a collegiate Drake Relays title.

Chad Morton is Carter’s Dad, and is the head boys’ track & field coach for the Greene County Rams. The Rams were at the Norsemen Invitational last night in Jewell. The location was moved to South Hamilton high school because the track in Story City is being worked on. Coach Morton reports his team had a 1-2 finish in the shot put with Jesse Miller at 47′ 6″ and Broc Hamann second with a best toss of 44′ 8″. Miller was second in the discus throw at 155′ 6″. The 4 x 200 meter relay was first in 1:34.30 with Trey Schilling, Richard Daugherty, Camden Strennen, and Miller, and the distance medley relay placed first in 3:50.84 with Schilling, Strennen, Miller, and Drew Wolterman.

Coach Kyle Kinne’s boys’ golfers were at Woodland Hills Golf Course yesterday for a meet hosted by Saydel (Des Moines). Natan Behne led the Rams by shooting 41 for nine holes in just his second competitive round this season and he was runner-up medalist. Will Hansen shot 42. The other scores for the Rams were 43 by Milo Taute and 46 for Cody McCollom. South Hamilton won the quadrangular with 164 strokes, followed by Roland-Story (Story City) 171, Greene County 172, and Saydel 208.
