Former United States Vice President Mike Pence among other political speakers recently made a stop in Jefferson to speak to a Republican group.

Pence along with Presidential-Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Iowa Senators Amy Sinclair and Jesse Green spoke at the  Iowa Federation of Republican Women’s spring conference. A headline going into the event was whether former Vice President Mike Pence would declare his own run for the presidency.

He discussed many issues from using the nation’s resources to fund Ukraine, curving the rising debt in the country, touted the Trump administration’s remain in Mexico policy as well as he talked about instability of the Biden administration. But Pence told Raccoon Valley Radio Iowa opinions play a big part in his decision to continue public service

“The Biden administration has failed America at home and abroad. And the fact that people see in me someone who has a congressman as a governor, as a former vice president, would be able to bring the experience and the principle necessary to turn the country around is deeply humbling to me. But you bet I’m going to put great weight in. Any announcement we make will be greatly informed by the opinions of the people of Iowa.”

Republican Presidential-Candidate and American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy spoke at this event. Ramaswamy discussed his agenda and some of his qualifications to be President of the United States including being a millennial and being a founder of multiple billion dollar company.

“I’m 37 years old. I’ve got fresh legs. I’m the only first ever millennial to run for president as a Republican. I’m doing this for the next generation. And my other qualification, I’ll tell you this is I go to the other side’s turf. I debate them and I defeat them, whether it’s CNN, whether it’s NBC or CNBC or whether it’s college campuses. That’s what we’re going to need to do.”

Additionally during the event, the Iowa Federation of Republican Women presented Iowa Senator Amy Sinclair with the association’s highest distinction, the Yellow Rose Award. Sinclair was caught off guard during the presentation.

I’m beyond honored that this group of women who in their own rights are just incredible human beings would honor me in such a way.”

The event took place on Saturday at the Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.
