The Class 2A number eight Greene County boys soccer team saw its 6-0 start to the season end on Thursday when they hosted Des Moines Christian at Karber Field in Grand Junction.

The DMC and Greene County boys have had a close soccer rivalry recently and Thursday’s match went to the visiting Lions by a 3-2 final. The loss was the first in seven matches for Greene County while DMC got to 4-4 on the season. The Rams never led in the match and the three goals allowed the number given up in the first six competitions combined. Grant Dunn scored just 1:22 into the match and he tallied again with only three seconds remaining in the first half. The Rams had a goal with 7:17 left in half number one from Jose Velazco and one from Gesser Gutierres with 29:07 in the second half. The eventual game winner for the Lions was scored by Sam Overholt with 15:42 to play. Dunn has 12 goals this season and Velazco 11. Gutierres’ goal was number 18 in just seven matches. Kolby Angell had an assist and goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had six saves.

Coach Carl Behne pointed to the two first half DMC goals and told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams have a short turnaround with a make up girl/boy twin bill in Grand Junction today vs. Panorama.

The Greene County girls lost at State Center to West Marshall on Thursday, 4-1. Coach Maribel Hernandez Rams are 0-5 while the Trojans improved to 1-7. Chanlyn Cunningham had the Greene County goal.
