Anyone looking to get outdoors and improve their health are invited to a couple of special events tomorrow.

The Iowa Walking Club is hosting two 5K and 10K walks in Jefferson and Redfield on Saturday. According to their website, the Iowa Walking Club promotes physical fitness with non-competitive activities. The day kicks-off in Jefferson with registrations at the Milwaukee Depot at 9:30am and the walk to begin at 10. Organizers say the highlights along the route include the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower, the Greene County Historical Museum, Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County, the birthplace of pollster George Gallup, and the Doreen Wilbur statue. The Bell Tower will be open tomorrow for the walk, so participants are encouraged to bring $3 to ride to the top.

The second walk happens in Redfield, where registrations will start at 1:30pm at the shelterhouse at Hanging Rock County Park, with the walk to begin at 2. The 5K and 10K routes will consist mainly of the park, the Middle Raccoon River and the city of Redfield. Highlights include the Grand Army of the Republic Museum in Redfield, the welcome center on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, as well as the river itself.

Organizers tell Raccoon Valley Radio there is a $3 registration fee for either walk and the walks will happen regardless if it is raining. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, strollers for younger kids are allowed and the routes loop back where they start.
