This year’s junior/senior prom for Greene County High School is happening this Saturday.
Junior Class President Gavin Vander Linden tells Raccoon Valley Radio the theme is “A Trip to the Tropics” and the evening begins at 6pm with the grand march at the high school auditorium. Vander Linden invites the public to see everyone’s outfits and the doors will open at 5:30pm. Then at 7pm will be the banquet for students at the Wild Rose Casino and Resort Greene Room Events Center with a fajita bar. The dance takes place from 8-11pm and then after prom will be at the middle school gym from midnight to 2:30am. The doors will open at 11:30pm for after prom and close promptly at midnight.
Some of the activities for after prom include human foosball, a hypnotist and virtual reality headsets, which Vander Linden describes incorporating the school district’s newest technology.
“So the (high) school got a grant that gave us a bunch of Oculus headsets, which the grant stipulates that we’re supposed to use them for learning VR coding and all of that, which we’re starting next year with a game design class. But since we have those, we’re also able to use them for playing games at after prom. So our tech guy is getting some games downloaded on there. He’s been going through there and figuring some out. So yeah, that’ll be really cool.”
Junior Class member Olivia Hoyt talks about why she wanted to help plan for prom.
“I’m pretty opinionated and so I really just wanted to have kind of the inside info of what was going on and just to help our class plan something that everyone would really enjoy. I just think it’s been really fun to be able to see it all come together and put in ideas and stuff, especially for the food and different games for after prom because I’ve also been helping out with that.”
Vander Linden adds there are a few tickets left if there are students that want to go to prom and they can contact the high school office to purchase the remaining tickets.
