The Guthrie Center City Council meets tonight, and one of the major items that will be discussed actually pertains to matters of the City itself.
Well actually, the matter pertains to Guthrie Center City Hall offices… Mayor Denny Kunkle explains.
“We’re having a public hearing tonight on whether (or not) the community would be in favor of us going into debt for up to $450,000, and the purpose for that is the bank where I work (Guthrie County State Bank) is wanting to build a new bank across the street, and we as a city are considering buying the existing bank building for our City offices.”
Kunkle says the City has been trying to upgrade its office space for many years now, and he believes taking the bank space would be a great opportunity to finally get that upgrade.
“We’ve worked so hard in the last two or three years getting to where we are, and I just feel very strongly that this another big step for improving our downtown… I hope we can get it pulled off, I really do. I think long-term it’s going to be better for the City, and long-term it’ll be better for our bank. Overall, I think it would be a huge improvement for Guthrie (Center).”
