The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
During consent items, the Council approved to schedule a public hearing for May 23rd for a budget amendment for the current fiscal year. The public hearing and considering a resolution for plans and specifications and form of contract for an upper story apartment project for The Centennial was tabled to a future meeting.
The Council then approved a $500,000 financial assistance grant through the Iowa Finance Authority for the wastewater treatment plant improvement project, the city’s insurance policy was renewed with a 5.2-percent increase in total premium costs to $262,531. The Council then approved an administrative contract with Region XII Council of Governments for the upper story housing project at The Centennial. Next, the Council approved several policy updates to the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). They approved a code of conduct, a prohibition on use of excessive force and a residential anti-displacement and relocation assistance plan, which all had no changes to the 2016 version.
Finally, the Council approved an extension for a grant through the Iowa Economic Development Authority for covid funds for an upper story apartment project with Pub Adventures at 123 North Chestnut Street. Karla Janning with Region XII said the project is moving through its punch list items and instead of being required to have all apartments fully occupied within the next 6-8 weeks, the extension would give the owners until May 31, 2024.
