The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board heard an update from Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. He talked about the east entryway project with landscaping and a welcome sign. He also mentioned the West Lincoln Way resurfacing project from Highway 4 to Grimmell Road. He gave an update on the City Hall exterior improvement project and the new animal shelter.
The Board approved the county auditor’s quarterly passport report for January through March of issuing 63 passports, as well as approving the county recorder’s quarterly report of fees for January through March of $68,769. The Board also approved a $4,000 Louis Dreyfus funding request for the Bell Tower Community Foundation for a redesign of their website.
They also approved a revision to the 2024 fiscal year Iowa Department of Transportation Secondary Road budget and five-year construction program. The funding for the Snake Creek bridge project will be reimbursed by federal aid funds. They also approved transferring the second half of funding to the Greene County Secondary Roads Department of $162,500 from local option sales and services tax and $615,806 from rural funds.
Finally, the Board approved a resolution that opposed Senate File 550 in the Iowa Legislature that would make LOSST a statewide tax and use a penny from sales tax to the Iowa’s Land and Water Legacy for conservation practices. The resolution stated that the Supervisors are in favor of conservation, but that using LOSST is the wrong mechanism.
