The Perry Public Library is celebrating National Poetry Month with a few programs.
The activities will start from 3 to 4pm today at the library with “Poetry Fun,” which explores the poems of Shel Silverstein. This program will be geared towards elementary age children with silly, wacky poems filled with tongue-twisting spoonerisms. It is free and no registration is needed.
Then fun will continue from 4 to 6pm on April 17th in the library community room with an informal “Teen Poetry Slam.” Teenagers will be encouraged to come and learn how to perform slam poetry in public.
At the end of the month, tweens will be invited to the Perry Public Library from 3 to 4pm on April 26th for their “Found Poetry for Tweens.” Youth Services Librarian Laura Pieper explains more about this program.
“They will clip words from magazines and use them to create their own original poetry. These are fun, pressure free ways to discover poetry. All of these poetry events are free. No registration is required.”
