Greene County boys’ soccer head coach Carl Behne and assistant Chad Black have worked together since before the inception of Greene County being on its own. The Rams have had winning seasons and two Class 1A State Tournament appearances in the previous four seasons the program has played. There was no 2020 season due to COVID-19.
The Rams are off to a 2-0 start this season with 6-0 and 6-2 victories to this point. Coach Behne talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about putting the offense together. “Coach Black and I could say ‘this is how we’re going to play every year,’ but we don’t stick to that. Almost every year we’ve had a different formation than we had the previous year and it’s really based around the talents and abilities of the guys we have on the field, so we work really hard to put those guys into the spots where they’re going to be most successful.”
The coach added, “There are past and present players that could have been scoring midfielders, that could have been forwards, but some of the guys we put up high couldn’t be defenders. We have to find that balance and we understand everybody wants to come in and be that goal scorer at the beginning of the year, but kind of collectively as they see how we put those pieces together and we gel as a team, I think that’s worked well for us each and every year.”
The Rams were weather out of a girl/boy doubleheader vs. Panorama yesterday, and are scheduled to play Carroll High tomorrow.
