The Guthrie County Conservation Department is taking time in the fluctuating temperatures to go out and get prepared for warmer weather.

Director Brad Halterman says that the department has been working on cleaning up parks and campsites, so that when the weather finally is nice enough to allow for campers to use those areas, they’ll be ready. He also tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they are working on the recreational trail they share with Greene and Dallas Counties.

“We are out on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, cutting back brush and cleaning up tree limbs and branches and stuff from this winter. We’re knocking some of that brush back and just getting that all tuned up.”

Halterman mentions that this is also the last year that individuals will need to purchase a trail pass to go onto the Raccoon River Valley Trail, with all three counties dropping the passes at the end of the calendar year.
