One Greene County High School student will get to represent the Rams at next week’s statewide event.

Senior Bella Linberg is going to participate at the Iowa High School Speech Association All-State Individual Festival. Linberg was nominated by the room judges at the state contest for her prose piece, in which Speech Coach Kelley Gray talks about the story and how she knew Linberg would be the best person to bring the story to life.

“It’s called, ‘Small Town Mayor is Done with Visitors Looking for Love at Christmas Time.’ And it kind of pokes fun at the whole Hallmark movie Christmas time thing of  like going to this small town and falling in love. It’s just like a really sassy piece and Bella nails it. She does a really good job of being sarcastic, and being funny, and has a lot of really funny lines in there. It was perfect for her.”

Linberg has competed in both large group and individual speech during her high school career and she describes why someone should participate in these activities.

“I think it really helped me with public speaking, which is a required course (for high school). And so, I wouldn’t say I’m an introvert but I would say that I do get anxious in front of people and it really helps with public speaking in general.”

Linberg will perform her prose at the University of Northern Iowa on Monday.
