A Wellsburg man was recently arrested for an alleged incident that took place in Greene County.
According to court documents, an investigation began with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on February 20th when a Scranton business owner claimed that 40-year-old Michael Moeller used a check that bounced for several vehicle-related items that were originally purchased on April 26, 2022 and totaled $5,465.97.
Court documents show that Moeller sent a check to pay the full amount on May 5, 2022, but the check didn’t clear and was sent back on May 10th. More invoices were sent to Moeller and his livestock business in Wellsburg on the first of every month from July of 2022 to January of 2023, with no payment. With additional charges, the total was now $6,296.66. Court documents reveal the business sent a certified letter on January 26th to Moeller stating this was the final opportunity to pay the full amount by February 10th. However, the letter came back unclaimed on February 13th.
A warrant was then issued on February 21st and Moeller was arrested this past weekend and charged with a Class D Felony for second degree theft. He was booked and released from the Greene County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
