The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday in regular session.
The meeting started with a public hearing for the 2024 fiscal year budget. City Administrator Mike Palmer said the only change from the original proposed budget was having a total of $31,000 shortfall after the re-calculation from the residential rollback mistake from the state government. Palmer noted they are going to use carry-over funds that represent about five-percent of the city’s reserves. Following the hearing, the Council approved the budget.
Next, the Council approved the appointments to the new Greene County Animal Shelter Board, including Ann Wenthold with People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Captain Jason Kroeger for law enforcement, Laura Snider as the Greene County representative, City Council member Darren Jackson, a veterinarian Dr. Amy Klauber and two at-large members with Samantha Hardaway and Bonnie Silbaugh.
Additionally, the Council approved a $160,942 contract with Fort Dodge Asphalt to resurface West Lincoln Way from Highway 4 to Grimmell Road, the first pay estimate to Accujet of $55,653 for slip lining part of the designated sewer lines, the first pay estimate of $671,313 to Shank Construction for the wastewater treatment plant improvement project, and a $22,460 purchase for equipment upgrades to the downtown sound system from Communications Engineering Company. The Council also approved a resolution for the $453,071 upper story Community Development Block Grant for The Centennial for a two apartment project and a resolution to authorize adoption of policies and procedure regarding municipal securities disclosure due to federal changes with bonding requirements.
