Iowa Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair is confident in some bills making their way through the Senate Education Committee.
Sinclair mentions that even though there are some bills that have been signed into law this session, including the Education Savings Account bill and the State Supplemental Aid bill, there are some other bills that the committee is working to get passed.
“We’re also working on some parental rights bills related to curriculum and to transparency with schools. We’re working on some regulatory reform for our local K-12 schools. There’s a lot of reporting that over the years has just been added, oftentimes it’s redundant and unnecessary. We’re working on some flexibility with teacher recruitment and retention, and salaries and I think that’s going to be important, especially in the rural areas.”
Sinclair tells Raccoon Valley Radio that there is also a bill that would work on creating some alternative paths for teacher licensure. During the legislative session, constituents can contact Sinclair at amy.sinclair@legis.iowa.gov to voice their concerns, questions or statements.
