The Iowa High School Athletic Association released preliminary classes for football in 2023 and ’24 and Greene County is the largest program in 2A. Because of the new socioeconomic formula taking a district’s free and reduced lunch numbers into consideration, enrollments are typically not round numbers. For example, the combined Greene County and Paton-Churdan number for the shared football program considering the free and reduced lunch numbers comes out to 272.04 while the number for South Tama County (Tama) is 280.94. South Tama is the smallest Class 3A district.

The Rams have been a 2A program since 2018 and have been a playoff qualifier in those five seasons and have put together a combined 40-11 record. Caden Duncan will be entering his fifth season heading the Greene County program and the Rams are 32-9 during his tenure with District titles each of the last two seasons.

District assignments are expected in the near future, followed by schools submitting lists of possible non-district opponents to the Athletic Association. The IHSAA makes the final determination for non-district opponents.
