
A two vehicle crash on Thursday morning resulted in two fatalities and one additional injury near Perry.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident happened at 7:45 am when a Toyota Camry driven by a minor from Jamaica was traveling eastbound on Highway 141 and lost traction due to the road being covered with snow and the vehicle rotated and entered the westbound lane and collided with a box truck, driven by 56-year-old Orris McKay from Carthage, Illinois at the intersection with Diagonal Road.
Daisy and Walter Fuentes Gavidia were pronounced dead at the scene and Edlyn Fuentes Gavidia suffered injuries and is in critical condition at the Dallas County Medical Center. Two of the minors were not wearing seatbelts. The incident remains under investigation with the Iowa State Patrol.
There will be a candlelight vigil at 7pm tonight at the victory bell at the Perry High School. The candlelight vigil will take a moment to honor the lives of Walter Gavidia and Daisy Gavidia.
