Registration deadline is fast approaching for a program with Greene County ISU Extension.

The farm succession program will take place at the Greene County Extension Office on March 20th and 21st from 6-9pm. A light meal will be served at 5:30pm both nights. Topics that will be covered include estate planning, setting goals, implementing a plan, along with gift and estate taxes and how to talk with family members about succeeding the farm. The two-night program will feature Extension Farm Management Specialist and Certified Farm Transition Coordinator Alexis Stevens and Staff Attorney with ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation Kit Tovar.

Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about this program using up-to-date information and data, including the record amounts of agricultural land from the ISU Land Value Survey that was completed this last fall.

“They’re going to take all of that into consideration because land values, as they increase or as they fluctuate, or as the crop market prices fluctuate, all of that is going to be taken into consideration. So we’re really proud that we’re able to offer this program frequently, but now is the time even if you’re not thinking you’re going to turn over your family operation in a few years, it would be a good idea to get some of the basic information and start planning that process.”

The cost to attend is $50 per person or $175 for a family of four. The deadline to register is March 13th by contacting the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138
