Recently an Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School junior was named to an officer position for a popular organization.

Presley Buttler has been a part of FFA since middle school, and at the last District Convention, she was voted in as the 2023-24 Iowa Southwest District FFA Treasurer. AC/GC FFA Advisor Skie Campbell tells Raccoon Valley Radio about the process for becoming a district officer.

“So there’s a few steps to becoming a district officer. The first step is that application process. Presley had to fill out a kind of lengthy review and application to even get considered for the ballot, and then the first weekend of February/last weekend in January, we went down to Clarinda, and she went in front of a nomination committee. So FFA members vote on who they want to be balloted. They get to look through the application process, and then FFA members again get to vote on the balloted members who goes into office. So after that nomination committee process, she finds out she gets balloted, and then she goes to the district convention which was held on March 4th, and gets to say a two minute speech in front of probably around 60 of her peers to then get voted on into the position that she was balloted for.”

Buttler mentions that once she found out she was on the ballot, she was filled with joy.

“I was so excited, I remember texting her (Campbell) at like, 10:30 at night when I figured out I got it. I was ecstatic. There’s a lot of just like, hard work that goes into the application and interview process, and then a bunch of anticipation waiting to hear if you got nominated. So then all of that is kind of relieved with excitement when you find out you’d win.”

Buttler will be part of the district officer team for next year, along with four other young women who are filled with a love for agriculture and the FFA organization.
