The Paton-Churdan School District received overwhelming support from those that voted in a special election.
P-C voters had to decide whether or not to approve a revenue purpose statement saying what the school district could use the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) funds from the state’s one-cent sales tax. According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, of the 44 ballots that were cast, 41 were in favor and three votes were not. There was just over five-percent voter turnout. P-C Superintendent Kreg Lensch says SAVE can be used on updating technology and school facilities, along with purchasing buses or repairing them. He gave some recent examples of using SAVE.
“We’ve replaced all the ceilings in our classrooms and updated all the lighting in our classrooms. We’ve improved our parking lot. Every year besides that, we use it to update our iPads (and) the laptops that our kids are using. And you have to have safe vehicles on the road, so we’ve got a new bus coming in the spring to update one of our buses that needs to get off the road.”
Lensch adds with the passage of the revenue purpose statement, the SAVE funds won’t sunset until 2051. The election results are unofficial until the Greene County Board of Supervisors canvass the votes at their meeting next Monday.
