A newly elected United State Representative is looking for support for a bill that would cut pay raises for Congress.
US Representative for Iowa’s Third Congressional District Zach Nunn has introduced a bill that would repeal an existing provision that automatically raises salaries for Members of Congress every year. Nunn says that if this legislation doesn’t pass then Members of Congress will see a 7.5-percent increase in their salary which will equals $7,830.
“For far too long, in addition to the stock act bill that I said politicians in (Washington DC) should not be trading (stock) on insider information I also believe Members of the Congressional Delegation from any state shouldn’t be getting rich while in office.”
Nunn explains that both chambers of Congress are looking at this bill and he is hoping that it gets bipartisan support.
“This should be a good bill for anyone who wants to hold Washington politicians accountable by saying no automatic pay raises. I feel very confident we’re going to get broad support on this. And again, this builds on what we’ve already done and saying politicians don’t need to be trading stocks in the dark to make themselves rich. They don’t need to be getting automatic pay increases at the cost to every American.”
