dcg-3

Some timely shooting and key defensive stops by Dallas Center-Grimes led them to win their first state title in program history on Saturday.

It took five quarters but Mustangs got it done and defeated their near-by rivals North Polk 57-50 in the Class 4A State Championship. Emma Miner scored 23 points while pulling down 12 rebounds and DCG had a balanced attack behind her with Vanessa Bickford, Aubrey Johansen and Finley Fitzgerald scoring eight points. North Polk had a chance to win the game in regulation with a jump shot from Izzy McCool but it didn’t fall sending the game to overtime at 46-46. In extra time, the first points scored was from Aubrey Johansen and the momentum continued to pick up from the Mustangs with a three pointer by Emma Miner. Dallas Center-Grimes would outscore the Comets 11-4 in OT, to lead them to their 12 straight win and their final record of (23-3).

Emma Miner was selected as the Iowa Pork Producers Top Producer of the Game and she was honored on the Class 4A All Tournament Team along with Vanessa Bickford being selected as the captain of the Class 4A All-Tournament Team.
