Dallas Center-Grimes girls basketball can cement their name in school history and collect their first state championship in Class 4A today.
Dallas Center-Grimes will face the North Polk Comets in the Class 4A State Championship game at 2:30pm in the Wells Fargo Arena.
The top-seeded (22-3) Mustangs advanced to the state championship game after defeating Ballard, 33-32, in stunning fashion with Emma Miner’s free throw sealing the victory. Now they will have to take on the two-seed North Polk, the Raccoon River Conference Champions. This will be a rematch from late November when Dallas Center-Grimes edged out the comets in over time 61-52.
(23-2) North Polk is coming off a win over Bishop Heelan in the state semi-final by a score of 53-41. Sophomore Abby Tuttle led the Comets in points with 20 and senior MaKayla Boatman added 13 points in the decisive victory.
Dallas Center-Grimes will have to continue to play defense especially on the Comets athletic point guards and rebound the basketball over a taller front if they want to win the state championship. All the action will be covered on KDLS 94.3, 99.7 FM 1310AM or on our mobile app/ website stream starting at 2:15pm.
