The Panorama girls basketball team played in the Class 2A Region 7 championship on Thursday.
The 21-2 Panthers were up against the 21-2 Treynor Cardinals. This was a match up of two teams that had similar philosophies. Aggressive and stout defense.
So, it’s no surprise that the Panthers and Cardinals were locked in a defensive struggle all game long. Both teams struggled to score. The game was tied 12-12 after one quarter. These two teams had little separation. Exchanging buckets throughout the whole second quarter. Treynor’s Clara Teigland hit a buzzer beater three pointer. Cardinals would take a 26-23 lead into halftime.
The Panthers defense shined yet again in the third. Allowing Panorama to outscore Treynor 12-5, giving them the 35-31 lead heading into the fourth. The Cardinals fought back in the fourth and managed to take the lead 38-37 with 1:35 left.
Panorama would respond with Tyme Boettcher scoring a crucial layup giving the Panthers the lead 39-38 with under a minute left. Treynor would get the ball back and had a chance to win late but couldn’t get the shot go through.
Panorama wins their 22nd game of the season and has earned a trip to the State Tournament in Des Moines next week.
