History was made in several ways for the Greene County High School wrestling program at last week’s State Tournament inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Head coach Zach Beekman summed it up for Raccoon Valley Radio. “We had a great tournament with the two Champions, an eighth place finisher, and all four guys winning matches in a very tough tournament. The eighth place finish was the highest as Greene County and tied the best finish in program history, so it was really good for us. Our kids had a combined 15-5 record down there, and although you want to win every match, 75% winning percentage at the State Tournament was good!”
Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins were Class 2A State Champions at 132 and 138 lbs., respectively, with Brent Dennhardt eighth at 145 and Gavin Scheuermann finishing in the top 12 at 160 lbs. This was the first year of 24 qualifiers in each weight class and four days of the tournament.
