For those in Dallas County living paycheck to paycheck there is a solution to maybe get ahead.
Uplift- The Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot is the state’s first basic income study and researchers are looking to give 110 low-income families $500 per month for 24 months for needs like food, rent, utilities, health and child care.
According to Uplift, this is a way to test if a guaranteed cash assistance program with no strings attached and no limitations on how income payments are spent affects poverty. Those wanting to apply must live in Polk, Dallas or Warren counties, must be 18 years and older, live with a dependent up to the age of 25 and have a household income below 60-percent of the area median income.
