Area Class 3A wrestlers competed on the six mats at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Friday night as day three of the State Tournament concluded. Waukee, Waukee Northwest and Dallas Center-Grimes had wrestlers in action.

Returning State Champions Koufax Christensen (120) and Carter Freeman (132) for Waukee Northwest return to the Championship on Saturday night with semifinal victories. Christensen won by fall in 5:17 vs. Blake Giomio of Cedar Rapids Prairie while Freeman won 5-2 against Kael Kurtz of Iowa City High. Freeman will be wrestling for his third State title while Christensen made it to his third final and will be vying for his second title.

DC-G was represented in the semi’s by Jacob Fistler at 170  and he fell to Caden McDermott, the top seed, from Pleasant Valley. Fistler will finish anywhere from third to sixth on Saturday.

In the fourth consolation round, John King (126) of Northwest won his first consolation match, then lost, so he’ll go to Saturday’s seventh place match, Dom Rubino (145) of Northwest also won his first match, then lost, and likewise will go for seventh place, and the same for Logan Stotts (152) for the Wolves. Abe Parker (182) for NW lost his first consolation match and will not place. Cael Winter (220) of NW won his first match and lost his second, so he’ll be in the seventh place match Saturday, and Jamal Neeway (285) will not place in the top eight after losing his first consolation match. Waukee’s Wesley Anderson (145) won two matches and he’ll be in the consolation semifinals and will have a chance to place as high as third.
