The Class 2A wrestlers from our area have eight individuals that will move on to Saturday’s State Tournament last of four days at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Those eight will be state place winners, podium finishers, and participants in the Grand March prior to the 5:50 p.m. Championship matches.
Greene County and Winterset each have three place winners and the Rams have the only finalists in 2A from our area. Seniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins both won semifinals matches and remain unbeaten on the season. Petersen won his third straight major decision in the last three days, topping Nick Koch of North Fayette Valley (West Union) 13-5 to improve to 39-0 this season and the top seed is seeking his third title and 72nd straight victory. Robbins is 46-0 this season and the top seed at 138 lbs. He is in his fourth title match and is after Championship number two, looking to add one more victory to his 163-6 career mark. Brent Dennhardt, a sophomore at 145 lbs. will wrestling in the seventh place match Saturday afternoon,
The three Winteset wrestlers will be in Saturday’s consolation round. Senior Keegan Jensen could still place as high as third as he won two consolation matches Friday and improved to 42-5. Senior Eduardo Garcia at 160 lbs. is 41-11 after going 1-1 on the day and he’ll wrestle for seventh place. Carter Smuck is also a senior for the Huskies and he was 1-1 on Friday and 39-10 on the season and will also wrestle for seventh.
ADM junior Aiden Flora at 152 lbs. will be in the seventh place match after going 1-1 and is 13-4 overall. Senior Jackson Boese of Van Meter lost in the semifinals by fall to returning State Champion CJ Walrath of Notre Dame Burlington at 182 and he’ll be in Satiurday’s consolation semifinals, placing somewhere being third and sixth.
