The special election results to fill a vacancy on the Grand Junction City Council were recently released.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, Dennis Jacobs narrowly defeated Spencer Kirk by one vote, 42-41, to fill the rest of the term for Mark Renslow who resigned from the council this past November. The Council originally appointed Jacobs to fill the vacancy, but a petition by residents was submitted to hold the special election. A third candidate, Terry Hoefle, was also on the ballot and received 18 votes.

Of the 481 eligible voters in Grand Junction, 102 cast a ballot, which resulted in just over a 21-percent voter turnout. With Jacobs winning the election, he will fill the rest of Renslow’s term through 2025.
