It’s been a few weeks since the Education Savings Account Bill was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds, and Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Superintendent Josh Rasmussen weighs in with his thoughts.

Rasmussen says that he’s unsure at this time how it will affect the AC/GC School District, and that the administration will have to watch and see what happens. He adds that he does like the parental choice factor of the bill, but that there’s really one factor he’s been thinking about the most.

“One thing that I have thought about though, is just the funding that follows that student. One thing that if funding does, I think it does need to follow the student, whether they go to the private school, but if they do return to the public school, then I think that that funding needs to follow them back to the public school as well, if they happen to make a change in the middle of the year.”

Rasmussen adds that he’d like it if a deadline were set up to help schools know if any students will be using an ESA, and if so how many. The current bill that was signed into law didn’t have requirements for private schools to be held to the same standards as public schools, something Rasmussen would also like to have seen be included.
