Heavy snow and breezy north winds are going to make road conditions difficult for some parts of central Iowa today.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Zogg says the sticky snowfall in combination with strong winds will create hazardous roadways with low visibility especially in rural areas. He says the best thing to do before traveling today is to prepare your vehicle early, check the weather forecast and the road conditions on the Department of Transportation 511.org website.
“It’s going to depend a lot on how the roads are treated. Of course, as the snow falls and after it falls. But we would expect the travel conditions not to be very good, especially for the morning commute and then probably continuing into the afternoon and into the night just with the snow falling, gradually ending and then the wind picking up, causing some blowing and drifting snow.”
Zogg says the good news is they are expecting weather conditions to be normal on Friday with no precipitation and highs in the 30s and Saturday should warm up into 40s.
