Greene County and Southeast Valley (Gowrie) played a girl/boy non-conference basketball twin bill on Monday night in Jefferson on Senior Night. Seniors and their parents for both basketball teams, plus managers and cheerleaders were introduced in between games.

The Jaguars won the girls’ game 67-18 while the Rams won 60-53 in the boys’ contest. SEV’s girls are now 7-13 and the Rams fell to 0-20. Greene County boys are 8-11 and the Jaguars fell to 1-18 with 13 straight losses.

The Rams trailed SEV 12-9 early in the second quarter of the girls’ game before the Jaguars scored the next 32 points. Twenty-three of those were in the second quarter, plus the first nine of the third. Emma Shipley had eight points to lead the Rams, which included a pair of three-point goals. Kenna Scott scored 22 points and Breck Mills added 20 for Jaguars. The Rams had 29 turnovers to just eight for SEV.

Seniors Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller each had 19 points for the Greene County boys, and Brynley Ruzicka added 10 points. The Jaguars had four players score between eight and 12 points and were led by Carl Bergland’s dozen. SEV led 12-11 after one quarter before Greene County went ahead in the second quarter. The Rams built the lead to 12 points in the second half, but the Jaguars cut it to five in the closing minutes. SEV put up 20 fourth quarter points to keep it close. Both teams shot just 35% from the field and three-point shooting was less than that with the Rams at three of 24 and SEV two of 20. The Jaguars had 21 turnovers to 13 for Greene County.
