Carter Morton of Jefferson, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate, continues to climb up the NCAA heptathlon charts. His latest performance came at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational last weekend at Lincoln, NE. The third year Northern Iowa multi-event athlete placed third among 16 starters in the heptathlon at Lincoln and his seven event point total of 5,698 moved him up to second place on the all-time chart for the Panthers. Morton won the high jump at 6′ 9-3/4″ and was third in both the long jump and pole vault. His Feb. 4 total is 18th best among NCAA DI heptathletes, according to US Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association website.

The only athletes to place higher at Lincoln were from Power 5 schools Nebraska and Washington. He finished above Power 5 athletes from Kansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, and Washington. Every athlete in the DI heptathlon top 10 through Feb. 4 is from a Power 5 program.
