At this week’s Grand Junction City Council it was announced that the City’s Fire Chief Mark Renslow voluntarily resigned from his position with the department.
His resignation resulted in allegations made by an individual through an email accusing the former fire chief of misappropriating funds.
City Clerk Rita Jenkins says the email is bogus and that the address isn’t registered to an existing person.
Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert says a formal investigation will be led by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation. He points out that after a conversation between Chief Deputy Sheriff Jack Williams and County Attorney Nick Martino, they felt it best to have a third-party, unbiased investigation conducted since the sheriff’s office works closely with the City as the main law enforcement agency.
Haupert states that they will assist in the investigation but will wait to hear back from the DCI decides.
Renslow was appointed chief of the department last March and Haupert adds that acting assistant chief Tim Fester will be named as interim fire chief pending approval from Mayor Gerald Herrick.
