Two annual events are happening this weekend and it culminates at one small southern Greene County town.
The Bike Ride to Rippey is this Saturday that takes bicyclists from the City of Perry starting at 10am and riding up to Rippey and back to Perry. While bicyclists and others make their stop in Rippey, there are a few choices of food and beverages people can enjoy. Mayor Dan Brubaker says there will be a beer tent with music playing on Main Street once again.
Additionally, the Rippey Lions Club will host its traditional Roast Beef Sundaes, with mashed potatoes, gravy and topped with a cherry tomato for sale, along with chili, dessert bars and beverages to be served at the Rippey Library and Community Building. The United Methodist Church and Rippey Baseball Commission are teaming up to serve a baked potato bar with a variety of toppings, as well as chili, pie, dessert bars and beverages at the church. Both options have individual prices, which are listed below.
Mayor Brubaker says this event does better if the weather cooperates.
“We have a lot better turnout. People sticking around town a while and that way they can spend some money and the organizations will think it’s a good weekend. It’s just going to be a nice weekend as far as that goes.”
Another event that is happening at virtually the same day and time is the second annual Perry-Berkley-Rippey Half Marathon. This is free for anyone who wants to participate and registration ends the day of the race. It starts at the corner of Lucinda and 2nd Street in Perry at 9:30am. Organizer Zach Norgren says any donations and proceeds go to support the Cancer Research Institute and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. Click the link below to sign up.
