snowmobiles

With plenty of snow on the ground, a popular winter activity is off and running.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reminds motorists that snowmobiles are prevalent on the roads right now. He talks about some things to keep in mind for those who operate snowmobiles as well as the other motoring public.

“The biggest part is going through cities. You have to take the most direct route through the city. You can’t be veering off to go get something to eat or anything like that, you’re supposed to go straight through town and back out to the state ditches or county road ditches. Then just basically for vehicles, just keep in mind that there are snowmobiles out on the ditches, pretty heavily right now. So you just got to watch to make sure that they are watching so if they go to cross the road, they don’t cross in front of you and we have an accident.”

Sheriff Williams advises that snowmobiles can cross over roadways from ditches or medians frequently, so motorists should be aware of that as well, and snowmobiles are to stay within ditches when operating along a roadway.
