The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday.

The Board approved an updated courthouse building and grounds policy. Some of the changes that County Attorney Thomas Laehn pointed out was that pets, as defined by Iowa Code 717E.1(5), would be allowed on the courthouse grounds with several requirements, such as it must be licensed, have all required vaccinations, and is in a container or on a leash no longer than six feet.

The Board also approved the County Treasurer’s quarterly investment report as presented and heard a 2024 fiscal year budget proposal from the secondary roads department. The Board took no action following the proposal, as they will consider it during their budgetary discussions.

They also heard an update from County Engineer Wade Weiss who said the colored lights for the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower have been ordered. Supervisor Chair John Muir said he and another Supervisor talked with Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield about using Greene County Ambulance to transfer patients to other medical or healthcare facilities when needed and there not being enough crews to cover the county for emergency calls when those situations sometimes happen.
