Greene County boys’ basketball played twice last week on the road and went 2-0. Coach Chris Nelson’s team is 7-8 on the season and 6-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play after winning in Jewell vs. South Hamilton 63-59 and in Monroe vs. PCM by a 54-51 final.
Free throw shooting was pivotal down the stretch and the Rams made more than they missed in crucial late game situations. Coach Nelson talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the attitude he likes his players to have at the foul line. “It’s a confidence thing and you’ve just to know you’re going to make them, and if you don’t make the first one you’ve got to quickly forget about it and be confident that you’ll make the next one.” He added that self-confidence goes up each time you make a big free throw.
The Rams are off until the Jan. 27 girl/boy doubleheader in the high school in Jefferson vs. West Marshall (State Center). Both games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 o’clock with the boys to follow.
