The Perry Police Department is continuing to investigate a crime spree that lasted two days.
Police Chief Eric Vaughn says that on the nights of January 11th and 12th they received 17 complaints of vandalism and damage to vehicles. Vaughn says that victims of this criminal mischief saw nothing was stolen inside the vehicle but their windows were broken. Vaughn believes this vandalism crime spree is not targeted towards certain community members but he adds that they are still investigating the incidents.
“One of the things we’re really doing is there’s a lot of people out there with video systems right now in their homes and businesses. So we’re looking at footage that we have received from the community and some of the victims themselves to see if we can’t identify a vehicle and identify some suspects and also were working on a way to create a list of video systems within the community so when we have incidents like this we can look at to help us out.”
Vaughn encourages anyone to get a security camera system looking at angles inside and outside of your household because video footage is crucial to being able to catch criminals. He is also asking the community if they have any information on the string of vandalism in Perry to reach out to them at their non-emergency number at 515-465-4636.
