A recent snow storm has passed through the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, but will still pose some issues going forward.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says that the type of snow that fell Wednesday night and Thursday morning was heavier, with a high moisture content. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that with projected temperatures, there are a few places where melting snow may result in ice.

“We’re going to have a lot of melting going on, and then with this being a heavier snow, there’s going to be a large moisture content. So then as we get down below the freezing point into the upper twenties at night, we’re going to have (those) areas where we’ve got the bridges, the curves, the culverts, things like that where we’re going to get a refreeze throughout the night, every night.”

Kempf advises that as roads and other structures refreeze, there’s the possibility for black ice, and in areas where the roads aren’t completely cleared, slush can freeze and cause ruts to form on the roads, which can force your vehicle to slide.
