A 25-point fourth quarter carried the Greene County boys basketball team to a 63-59 victory over South Hamilton in Jewell on Tuesday night. Coach Chris Nelson’s team improved to 5-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 6-8 overall while the Hawks are now also 5-4 in the league and 7-5 overall. Greene County swept the two-game season series vs. SH. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Senior Richard Daugherty scored 14 of his game high 26 points in the last quarter including four of his five three-point goals. The Rams out scored the Hawks 25-15 in the last eight minutes after trailing much of the game. The Rams led 19-9 early, then trailed by 10 points in the second quarter before trailing 34-27 at intermission. Junior Gabe Ebersole had 13 points and senior Jesse Miller scored 11 and led the Rams in rebounds with nine. Junior Brynley Ruzicka iced the contest at the free throw line with five second left by taking the lead from 61-59 to 63-59. The Rams had a big free throw advantage, going 20 for 28. The Hawks were six of 11 shooting free throws.
The Rams lost 73-20 in the girls; game and fell to 0-14 on the season and 0-9 in the conference. Senior Kamryn Sanders had six points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot. SH was led by Hallee Feaker with 22 points.
Greene County will stay on the road Friday by playing PCM in Monroe. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
