The City of Perry is now looking for a full-time Fire Chief after a long time commanding officer exits.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says that they are working on drafting a new job description for the fire chief position in the Perry Fire Department after former fire chief Chris Hinds retired. Peterson says the position would come with pay, city benefits and a 40 hour work week.
“Definitely there is definitely a need for that full time chief. It’s actually required by the Iowa code. Once (Perry) hit, I believe it’s 9000 in population that we do have a full time chief. So just kind of preparing ourselves for when we hit that and hopefully in the next five to 10 years we’re growing enough to hit that kind of population. So it’ll be a good opportunity, I think to help the fire department be supportive of the volunteers, things like that.”
Peterson says that they are very thankful for the service Chris Hinds gave to their fire department and adds that Grason Hill will fill in as interim fire chief. He notes that the fire department has 10 volunteer slots open for anyone looking to join.
