U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley met with a room full of Dallas Center-Grimes High School students to kick off his 43rd annual 99 County Tour around Iowa on Monday.
Senator Grassley began the meeting by explaining why he holds these town halls at high schools to get a grip of what young people are thinking. He answered questions on the subject of his career path, types of legislation he’s gotten passed, daily duties as a senator and more. Grassley told Raccoon Valley Radio what he thought about the meeting after it was over.
“Well, you can surely tell they had good questions here. Very thoughtful questions. You bet. And they did you see, they didn’t get so much into issues as they got into how we do things or why we do things more so than issues. That’s a little bit different than most high schools. Actually, there’s probably a couple of things that you get from young people you don’t get from older people.”
Senator Grassley also met with school staff and administration to take pictures and talk about education.
