Farmland values in Iowa are the highest they’ve ever been.

According to the Iowa State University Farmland Value Survey, Iowa’s overall average farmland value had another increase in 2022 of 17-percent compared to 2021, with the price per acre of farmland valued at $11,411. Locally, Greene County saw about a $1,900 per acre increase from 2021 to 2022 to $12,563. Dallas County jumped over $1,800 per acre from 2021 to 2022 to $10,120. Finally, Guthrie County also had an increase from $9,226 per acre in 2021 to $11,056 in 2022.

The survey includes reports from licensed real estate brokers, farm managers, appraisers, agricultural lenders, county assessors and other agricultural professionals. The factors that were mentioned by respondents that were positive included higher commodity prices, low interest rates through last summer, cash on hand and high credit availability, strong yields, a good farm economy and strong demand. The main negative factors included when the interest rates peaked, higher input costs and stock market volatility, and economic uncertainty.

The average price per acre of farmland has never been this high since this survey was first started in 1941. Click the link below for the full report.
