One Jefferson organization does community events and helps with other endeavors throughout the year.

Jefferson Kiwanis Club President Mike Palmer says they had a busy holiday season volunteering for several events and programs.

“They help with Shop With A Cop, we’ll help with Salvation Army, you’ll maybe see some of the Kiwanians doing bell ringing; we did Toys for Tots, we contributed to that. So there are a lot of things. Like any club we’re trying to be more and more visible in the community for what we do. Because there is sometimes I think at clubs you see the fundraising, but you don’t see what they’re really doing. We’re making a very concerted effort to make sure we’re out there where people can see us.”

Palmer notes Jefferson Kiwanis also held two story walks for youth, as well as their annual fundraisers of a chicken dinner and pancake breakfast, with the proceeds going back to the community and youth projects.
