The former Guthrie County Attorney and current Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird had a busy first day in office.

Bird tells Raccoon Valley Radio she and her office hit the ground running January 3rd to get started on some stuff she wanted to do, and be a part of.

“We had a great first day. I went around and met some folks in the office. We also announced that we will be hiring more prosecutors to help enforce the law, work with law enforcement and support crime victims. And then I was able to join onto a number of important lawsuits to hold the Biden Administration accountable. From things like the tax mandate and ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) that keeps the state from cutting taxes, which is wrong and illegal, to the fetal heartbeat bill (and) to support that. And then also the Covid mandates that we have seen coming out of Washington, (D.C). Here I’m talking about those vaccine mandates that would force people to get the Covid vaccine.”

Bird mentions that another lawsuit her office joined was Nebraska vs. Biden, which challenge’s President Joe Biden on mass cancellation of federal student loan debt. She adds that she is also instituting a top down audit of the victim services section of her office. She’ll be meeting with victims, advocates, law enforcement and other stakeholders to inform the effort, and will be having her newly hired Assistant Attorney General John Gish of Washington County as head of victim services.
