The Perry girls basketball team opened up the new calendar year in style Tuesday night defeating Nevada 44-32 in Heart of Iowa action. The Jayettes relied on a suffocating half court defense that forced over 20 Nevada turnovers and held the Cubs to below 20 percent shooting from the floor. Perry opened up a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and expanded it to a 24-17 halftime cushion. The freshman connected on 4-8 three-point shots. West finished unofficially with 7 steals.
